Turkey Achieves Record with Over $11 Billion in Annual Defense Exports

Türkiye has achieved a significant milestone in its defense industry, with defense and aerospace exports surpassing $11 billion over a 12-month rolling period for the first time. This achievement underscores the country’s growing prowess in the defense sector, as reported by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB). In June alone, these exports reached $802.8 million, reflecting a substantial 29.6% increase from the same month the previous year. Furthermore, in the first half of the year, exports rose by 29.5% compared to the same period last year, totaling $4.67 billion.

Haluk Görgün, President of SSB, attributed this growth to the rising global demand for Turkish defense products and the expanding capabilities of the country’s defense manufacturing sector. He emphasized that Turkish defense systems have proved their effectiveness in real-world operations, contributing to the establishment of lasting international partnerships. This progress highlights Türkiye’s successful strategy in bolstering its domestic defense industry while reducing dependency on foreign military equipment.

Over the past two decades, Türkiye has significantly developed its domestic defense infrastructure, evolving into a formidable global exporter of defense products. The country now exports more than 230 different defense items to 185 countries worldwide. This impressive range of exports is a testament to the country’s dedication to becoming a leading figure in the global defense market.

Türkiye’s ambitious goal is to secure a spot among the top 10 defense exporters globally. The country’s continuous efforts to innovate and expand its defense offerings are key factors in this pursuit. As Turkish defense products gain international recognition for their efficacy and reliability, the country is well-positioned to strengthen its influence and reach within the global defense industry.
