Erdoğan and Trump Plan New York Meeting at UN Assembly

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump next week in New York during the United Nations General Assembly, as confirmed by U.S. Ambassador to Ankara, Tom Barrack. This meeting presents a chance for the two leaders to address pressing bilateral relations and regional issues, although specific agenda details have not been disclosed.

Erdoğan and Trump last convened in July at the NATO summit in Ankara, where discussions primarily revolved around the alliance’s future and regional security. These talks underscored the strengthening ties between the United States and Turkey during Trump’s second term. Their upcoming meeting is set to occur during the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, running from September 22 to September 28.

The previous encounter between Erdoğan and Trump at the White House took place in September 2025, marking Erdoğan’s first visit to Washington in six years. This upcoming meeting in New York is expected to further the dialogue on international security and humanitarian issues, with global leaders anticipated to debate the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine, alongside developments involving Iran, Sudan, Myanmar, Haiti, and Cyprus.

The discussions between Erdoğan and Trump are part of a broader diplomatic engagement as world leaders gather for the General Assembly. The event serves as a platform for addressing major international concerns, aiming to foster cooperation and resolve contentious issues affecting global stability.
