In a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to mend relations, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan engaged in a phone conversation to discuss the normalization process between their countries and address recent developments in the region. The leaders took this opportunity to exchange greetings for Eid al-Adha, highlighting a gesture of goodwill amid their discussions.
During the conversation, Erdoğan underlined Türkiye’s commitment to advancing the normalization process through practical initiatives aimed at boosting direct trade and enhancing economic ties. He reiterated the importance of fostering peace, stability, and security throughout the region. Both leaders assessed the progress made in their efforts to improve bilateral relations and expand cooperation.
This dialogue marks the latest high-level interaction in the gradual rapprochement between Ankara and Yerevan after years of tense relations. Initiated in late 2021 with the appointment of special envoys, the current normalization efforts have seen tangible steps such as the resumption of commercial flights in 2022, reflecting a mutual desire to increase dialogue and build trust.
The push for normalization is part of a broader regional initiative to enhance stability and promote economic connectivity in the South Caucasus. Despite existing challenges, both Türkiye and Armenia remain committed to dialogue and confidence-building to lay the groundwork for a more constructive bilateral relationship.
