Türkiye Seeks to Revitalize Relations with US, Says Erdoğan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called for revitalized relations between Türkiye and the United States, emphasizing the need for enhanced dialogue and cooperation amid global conflicts. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan underscored the positive outcomes derived from the collaboration between the two NATO allies, particularly in the Middle East.

Erdoğan outlined potential areas for expanded cooperation, including nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry. He advocated for the removal of obstacles hindering bilateral relations and encouraged joint defense production to strengthen ties further. Highlighting Türkiye’s burgeoning defense sector, Erdoğan noted that the nation’s defense exports had surged from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion, with aspirations to become one of the top ten defense exporters globally.

In addition to defense, Erdoğan invited US investors to consider opportunities in Türkiye, referencing the country’s favorable foreign investment climate and new incentives for investors. He revealed that Ankara is embarking on a new investment initiative founded on a competitive incentive framework, aimed at attracting more international capital.

US Senator Chris Coons also addressed the event, celebrating the enduring partnership between the two nations. He highlighted the significance of business ties and entrepreneurship in fortifying bilateral relations. The gala served as a platform for senior Turkish and US officials and business leaders to commemorate the longstanding diplomatic and economic connections between Türkiye and the United States.
